Freda Mae Grant Carson, 96, died Nov. 27, 2010, at Houlton Regional Hospital, her Lord's possession, as she was throughout her good, long life. She was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Canterbury, New Brunswick, the second child of Edward Harris and Lillian Isabelle (Grant) Grant. When she was two years old the family, then with three children, immigrated to Maine, by horse and wagon, settling in Crystal, where her father worked in the woods and on the railroad, her parents eventually managing, additionally, a small subsistence farm. Freda was a bright student and was able to attend high school in Island Falls, by working her keep - including an unheated bedroom - with a local family. There was no school bus in the area then, and cars weren't affordable, so she walked many miles to visit her family. She graduated in 1933 and enjoyed many reunions since. She became secretary to Walter Cowan, a Houlton lawyer and judge of probate, and remained such for 25 years. During that time she became a proud American citizen, and was later appointed by Gov. Cross as the first and only woman recorder of Houlton Municipal Court, and only the second so-appointed in the county. As such she was authorized to act as judge on many occasions, whenever the municipal judge was unavailable. When Maine District Court was established in 1962, Chief Justice Chapman appointed her as clerk of the district, a full-time position. In 1978 Gov. Longley appointed her a lifetime Dedimus Justice. Her retirement banquet in 1983 was attended by many luminaries of the Maine court system, in addition to many others, on some of whom she had levied fines - you know who you are. Freda was active in many community organizations, too numerous to list here, and in all of them held the position of president or chair for several years. She was also an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress, making much of her own clothing, and was an expert in the nearly-lost art of tatting - a form of decorative hand-sewing. Not only that, she was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and also a dedicated homemaker and a very good cook. She excelled at everything she did. She married J. Merland Carson, a recent widower, in 1949, and adopted his eight-year-old daughter, Gayle. In 1974 Freda and Merland moved from Houlton to Linneus to better help Gayle manage her farm after the death of Gayle's first husband, Roger Bates. Their help was critical when their grandson, Michael Bates, died a few months later. When Freda left their small neighboring farm two years after Merland's death in 1990, she managed the planet's largest ever yard sale, still talked about, as Merland saved everything. Freda is survived by her daughter, Gayle Boone and husband, Alan, of Bangor; granddaughter, Marcia Bates Greenfield of Eliot; great-granddaughter, Hannah Greenfield of Pittsburgh; sister, Elsie Grant Hoskin of Houlton; a special niece and her husband, Marian and Don Burton of California and Mattawamkeag Lake; a special nephew and his wife, Royal and Susan Hoskin and their daughter, Elizabeth, of Hollis Center; and stepgrandsons, Storer Boone and Jacob Boone and their families, of London and Toronto. In addition to the already mentioned lost loved ones, she cherished her recently deceased nephew, George Hoskin; and those relations of her brothers, Burns, Joseph and David Grant; and of her late sister, Eva Grant Kennedy; and also many friends. There will be a visiting hour 10-11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Military Street Baptist Church, Houlton, with a last service immediately after, which the Rev. Randall Burns will officiate.

Pemberton Ridge - Mrs Phyllis Ruest, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Fish, Green Mountain, and Albert Edward Harvey, son of Mr and Mrs Lancaster Harvey of Pemberton Ridge were united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage at Woodstock, Rev. Gordon Vincent performing the ceremony. Miss Laurene Higgs and Gerald Leeman were the attendants.
The bridal party returned to the home of the bride's parents and in the evening a large number of friends and neighbors gathered to give them a charivari.

Daily Gleaner, Oct 24, 1927 - David L. Harvey of Devon, died this morning in the Victoria Public Hospital from injuries received the night of Saturday, October 15th, when struck in Union Street, Devon, by a public car running between this city and Marysville. Mrs. Robert Cain was operating the car. The victim, it was believed, became confused as the car approached and got in its way.
Mr. Harvey never regained consciousness after the accident, lingering for little more than a week. His condition from injury to the brain was such that it was impossible to operate.
The deceased was the youngest son of the late John Harvey, who settled in Stanley after coming from England, and was a native of Stanley. He as aged fifty-four years. Surviving are his widow, one son, Robinson, one daughter, Jessie, give brothers and a sister. Five brothers and a sister. The brothers are Richard of Stanley, Thomas of Fredericton, William of Devon, Charles of Lincoln, Richard of Devon. The sister, Mrs. J.H. Clark, resides in England.
The funeral will take palce Wedesday afternoon from the late home in Devon, Rev. D.C.Kaine officiating. Interment will be made in Sunny Bank Cemetery.

Gordon B. Harvey of McAdam and formerly of Pemberton Ridge passed away September 4, 2003 at his home. Born at Pemberton Ridge on December 15, 1918, he was a son of the late Lancaster and Elizabeth (Starton) Harvey. Gordon was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the York Carleton Regiment. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a guide for many years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, McAdam Branch 7. Gordon is survived by a special nephew, Stephen Harvey (Paulette) and their children Christina and Mitchell, McAdam; a daughter, Carol Lee Johnson (David), Ontario; two sons, Roy Harvey (Mona), St. Stephen and Michael Harvey, Ontario; a sister, Edith Broad, Woodstock; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, three sisters, Hazel Guy, Alice Harvey and Henrietta DeMerchant and three brothers, George, Robert and Albert Harvey. Resting at the Forest City United Baptist Church with visiting hours Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the church on Sunday, September 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. Pastor Randy Pirie officiating. From Find a Grave From Contributor Mark (48425187): Francis "Frances" Rebeca Harvey (born 16 October 1892), the oldest surviving sister of Grace Lenora Harvey averred on 10 October 1947 that Grace was born 18 December 1909 in Gibson, Saint Marys Parish, York County, Province of New Brunswick, Dominion of Canada, because they were "16 years" apart in age. So from 1947 onward 18 December 1909 became Grace's official date of birth.But the 1 June 1911 and 1 June 1921 Canadian censuses indicate that Grace was born 18 December 1907 since she is listed as ages 3 and 13 respectively.If the sisters were 15 years apart in age from 18 December through 15 October and 16 years apart in age from 16 October through 17 December, then Francis was 16 years, 2 months and 2 days old on the day Grace was born, 18 December 1908. Gibson and nearby communities were incorporated as the town of Devon in 1917, located on the north side of the Saint John River opposite Fredericton. Devon had two post offices, North Devon and South Devon. Devon was amalgamated with Fredericton on 1 July 1945.

Daily Gleaner, June 1, 1935 - Injuries received while engaged about his work resulted in the death this morning of Richard Harvey of South Devon at the age of seventy-two years, at the Victoria Public Hospital where he has been confined since he suffered the injury on May 23rd.
Born at Stanley, he deceased for the past fifty years has been a resident of Devon, and was prececeased by his wife on January 31, 1934. He was well-known and highly respected and was a prominent member of the Orange Order, LOL, No. 1. He was also Worshipful Companion of the Royal Scarlet Chapter, and a member of Rossmore Lodge, LOL, No. 21 in Devon as well as the LOBA.
Surviving are five children, Mrs. Clifton Tapley and Mrs. Joseph O'Hara of Fredericton; Mrs. Charles Brown of Saint John; Mrs Lorne Daley of Marysville and Mrs. Hayward Rice of Barker's Point. Two brothers, Charles of Lincoln and William of South Devon also survive, also five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Service will be held on Monday afternoon from the late home in South Devon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. D.L. Kennedy and will be under the auspices of the Orange Order. Interment will be in the Sunny Bank Cemetery.

Bunting - Hawkes Couple Married at Woodstock Last Month - Reception Held Woodstock, July 8 [1946] - A wedding of interest to friends and relatives in Maine and new Brunswick took place at the Baptist parsonage here on Wednesday afternoon, June 26, at 2:30 o'clock when Marjorie Kathleen, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Hawkes, Canterbury, was united in marriage to John Fenwick, eldest son of Fenwick Bunting and the late Mrs Bunting, Debec, by Rev M.O. Brinton. The double ring ceremony was used.
The bride was becomingly attired in a turquoise blue wool suit with black accessories and wore a corsage of American Beauty roses.
She was attended by her cousin, Miss Alice Foster, of North lake, who wore a lime green suit with black accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. The groom was supported by his brother, Fred Bunting of Debec.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents at which 80 guests were present. The bride's table was centered with a three tier wedding cake, frosted in white, decorated with silver leaves and surmounted by a miniature bride and groom.

The family of Marjorie Kathleen Bunting is saddened to announce her death which occurred on Wednesday March 28, 2012 at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 87.Born in Eel River on October 12, 1924 she resided most of her life in Woodstock. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband John Bunting her parents Charles and Lena (McNerlin) Hawkes; her son Charles Bunting, brothers Ken Hawkes and Doug Hawkes and great granddaughter Keira Bunting. She is survived by her daughter Marie (Phil) Hansen of New Maryland and her six grandchildren, Jennifer Hansen; Matthew (Beth) Hansen, Chris (Darcy) Bunting; Shana (Darren) Grey; Jonathan (Stephanie) Hansen and Kirsten Hansen. Marjorie was a special great grandmother to Alex Hansen, Emma Hansen, Keenan Bunting, Ally Hansen, Keeley Bunting, Mattea Hansen, Michaela Hansen, Addison Grey, Katyn Bunting, Ayden Grey and Jacob Hansen. She was a special aunt to several nieces and nephews. Mom is affectionately known as the "donut lady" and she lived a full life of service to all who crossed her path.Due to the recent death of Marie's brother Charles Bunting and in consideration of her nephew Chris and niece Shana, Marie is requesting no public visitation prior to the funeral service. A Celebration of Marjorie's life and faith will be held on Friday at 11 am from the Woodstock Baptist Church. Rev Leonard Cousins will be officiating with interment in the Woodstock rural cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of fellowship at the church following the funeral service.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Woodstock Baptist Church - Mission Fund.

Telegraph-Journal, June 5, 1895 - The town was shocked on Saturday afternoon by the death of Mr. Charles Boone, one of the most respected citizens. For three weeks previous to his last illness, Mr. Boone had complained of not feeling very well, but his friends did not thing seriously about it, as he had been troubled for some years with indigestion. One day at noon he was taken suddenly worse, and for 12 days suffered terribly, especially towards the last. Some of the best medical aid in the county was procured—Dr Curtis of Hartland; Dr. Beairsto of Lakeville; Drs Rankine and Sprague of Woodstock, and Dr. Nevens of Houlton.
The pronounced his disease inflammation of the bowels, but in spite of their combined skill death claim his own. On Sunday at 2 p.m., his remains were taken to Rockland, four miles from Hartland, to be buried.
The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Barnes, were held in the Free Christian Baptist church at that place. Deceased was 61 years of age. He was a native of Marysville, in York county.
Mr Boone had been a wealthy farmer and lumberman. He had given his won old homestead at Ashland to his son, George, and settled his other son, Dell, on a farm in the same place. His only daughter is Mrs. Albright Belyea, also of Ashland.

The following is an obituary from the online archive Bangor Daily news from Tuesday, June 20, 2000  - Rose M. (Hickling) Cropley, 61, died June 19, 2000, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Houlton, the daughter of Franklin and Iva (Skidmore) Hickling. Rose spent most of her life caring for others. She worked for 17 years as an R.N. for the Arthur Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle prior to moving to the Belfast area in 1986. She has since worked for Bradbury Manor, Tall Pines Health Care and was currently employed at Harbor Hill. Rose enjoyed reading and painting in some of her personal time. She is survived by her parents of Florenceville, NB.; her husband of 30 years, G. Mickey Cropley of Searsport; a son and daughter-in-law, King and Mary Bishop of Belfast; a daughter, Sherrie Wright of Belfast; a stepson, Gregory and Tammy Cropley of Washburn; three stepdaughters, Victoria and Michael Kirschmann of Washburn, Melanie Morin of Pennsylvania, Shelly and Bob Linto of Mars Hill; a brother, Franklin Hickling of California; a sister, Nancy Holder of Montreal; two grandsons, 12 stepgrandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren. A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Harbor Hill Nursing Home, 33 Footbridge Rd., East Belfast. Friends are asked to make contributions in Rose's memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 311 Hanover Street, Manchester, N.H. 03104.
Arrangements are under the care of Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast.

Miss Annie I Higgs and Amos B Palmer Married at DeWolfe Corner [1947] - The United Church at De Wolfe Corner was the scene of a quiet but pretty wedding on Saturday afternoon, June 7, when Rev. W.E. Armstong of Lawrence Station united in marriage Annie Irene, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Higgs, of Pemberton Ridge, and Amos Bryce Palmer, son of Skiffington Palmer of Baillie, NB.
The bride, who entered the church as the Bridal Chorus was played, was given in marriage by her father. her wedding dress was of white rayon sheer, floor length, with sweeheart neckline and full long sleeves. The wedding veil fell from a coronet of orange blossoms and ended in a train, and she carried a bouquet of Better Time roses and Maiden Hair fern. She was attended by her sister, Mrs Frank Worrell of BAillie, as matron of honor, who wore a floor length gown of rose silk taffeta, with sweetheart neckline, long fitted waist and full skirt. Her should length veil fell from a wreath of pink flowers, and her bouquet was of pink and white carnations and fern.The groom was supported by his brother, Grant Palmer, and the ushers were Keith Palmer, brother of the groom and Frankie Worrell, brother-in-law of the bride.
The bride's mother wore a two-piece effect with printed jersey top, and neavy crepe skirt, with navy accessories. The groom's mother wore a dress of navy blue jersey with white coin dots, and navy accessories. Each wore a corsage of red carnations. The church was beautifully decorated with streamers of pink and white, with sprays of pine and apple blossoms placed on each window sill. The ceremony was performed under an arch, covered with evergreen and trimmed with white jonquils. The guest pews were marked with small white doilies centered with lily of the valley, tied with white ribbon. The nuptial music was rendered by Mrs Fred Reed of Old Ridge.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs Frank Worrell at Baillie, where the living room was decorated with an arch of evergreen and apple blossoms. The bride's table was covered with a lace cloth, decorated with candles in silver holders, and centered with a three tier wedding cake, topped with miniature bride and groom. Streamers of pink and white extended from the ceiling to the corners of the table.
Mrs Clifford Worrell and Mrs Lloyd Worrell poured, and girl friends of the bride served the guests, the Misses Eileen Cleghorn, Betty Murphy, Norma Steen, Marie Groom, Irene Marshall, Ruth Merrill and Dorothy Jones. Blanche Woodside had charge of the guestbook. After the lunch of sandwiches, small cakes of various kinds, tea and coffee had been disposed of the wedding cake was cut by the bride and served with fruit punch.

It is with great sadness that the family of Annie Palmer ( nee Higgs) announce her passing . She was born at her family home in Pemberton Ridge, NB in 1925 to John and Beatrice Higgs. She always referred to this area as " God's Country" and would often reminisce about the wonderful childhood memories she had growing up there.
She was a wise women and a woman of faith who often passed along her "lessons in life" to her grandchildren. Her face shone with happiness when she attended family gatherings. She was the light on top of our family tree!
Annie was a beloved aunt and she took great interest in the lives of her many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by those who kept in touch with her by phone and visits. She enjoyed regular conversations with her sister in law Bertha, who kept her updated on the activities in Forest City, NB.
She will enjoy a wonderful reunion was those who have predeceased her: husband Amos, daughter Cecilia, sister Helen, brothers Laurel, Norman and Carl.
Annie's strong faith carried her through difficult times but also gave her the strength to look at each new day with hope and gratefulness. Even though she attended the United Church of Canada she would often joke that she was a " Baptist at heart".
Over her life she enjoyed using her hands to make hand dipped Ganong chocolates, wedding cakes, fir wreaths, flower arrangements, hand knit socks, beautiful rose gardens, pickles, and her famous donuts. She will be remembered by many for all the delicious meals she prepared and served. She loved people and was genuinely interested in them; her loving smile, generosity and warm heart will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Carl B. Higgs of Forest City, York Co., NB passed away at his home on March 11, 2015. Carl was born in Pemberton Ridge, York Co., NB on May 20, 1921, a son of the late John and Beatrice (Gould) Higgs.
Carl joined the RCAF in January 1942 and was stationed in Toronto, Trenton and Calgary. In August 1942, he was sent overseas to England where he remained until May 1945, then returning to Canada, he was discharged in September 1945. Carl and Bertha were married on December 20, 1945. He was employed by Canada Customs in May 1959 as a seasonal worker, and was later hired fulltime in May 1967 until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bertha M. (Wood) Higgs; two sons, Dennis M. Higgs and Blaine M. Higgs (Marcia); seven grandchildren, Jamie Higgs (Colleen), Sharolyn Higgs, Suzanne Higgs, Lindsey Higgs, Laura Gilmore (Reid), Sarah Wilkinson (Jeff) and Rachel Higgs; five great grandchildren, Kaleigh Higgs, Katherine Higgs, Garrett Higgs, Nadia Gilmore and Alexander Gilmore; a sister, Annie Palmer; a sister-in-law, Shirley Nason; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Higgs and his wife Irva and Laurel Higgs and his wife Ida; a sister, Helen Worrell and her husband Frankie; a brother-in-law, Amos Palmer.
Visiting hours were held at Forest City Baptist Church, Forest City, NB on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the church with Rev. George Clark and Rev. Eldon Caldwell officiating. Eulogies were by Jamie Higgs, Blaine Higgs and Bobby McGinn. Music was provided by granddaughter Laura who shared a solo, Barbara and Ray Kierstead sang as well as the hymn 'In The Garden' was sung by Lindsey, Laura, Sarah, Rachel and Lyanne. Organist for the service was Marcia Higgs. Interment will be later at the Forest City International Cemetery.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Carl, the family has suggested the Forest City Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Through the years, Carl and Bertha have been an institution in the little community of Forest City. Carl has been an active driving force in any activity including church restoration, church services, cemetery projects and lake road repairs, etc. Carl was especially fond of the Forest City Christmas Eve service where friends would gather to celebrate the season and remember those who left us in that year. This year, he to, will be remembered.
Carl was a tremendous resource for historical knowledge of the area with a keen mind to the very end. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer an opinion on any situation. He was an avid outdoorsman, four wheeler operator, fisherman, and he was looking forward to a spring run on his snowmobile. He always took great pride in his flower gardens.
Carl's inspiration and leadership in the community will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Honorary pallbearers were Debbie Farrell, Dirk Bishop, Scott Harper, Matt Demerchant, Bev Richardson and Clayton Clark.

A quiet wedding was solemnized at the Baptist Parsonage, Forest City at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 1960 when Rev G.L. Hovey united in marriage Laurine Evelyn Higgs, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Higgs, Green Mountain, and Robert Wright, son of Mrs. Percy Wright and the late Mr. Wright of Temple, NB.
Miss Fayola Higgs, sister of the bride, was her only attendant and Maurice Ritchie, Hawkshaw, cousin of the groom, acted as groomsman.
Following the ceremony, the bridal party returned to the home of the bride's parents where a buffet supper was served to the assembled guests. The bride's table was centered with a lovely three tier wedding cake topped with miniature bride and groom.
Those assisting in serving were Mrs Alton Wood, Mrs. Jack MacDougall, Mrs. Ted Griffin, Mrs. Norman Higgs, Mrs Carl Higgs, and Miss Nancy Boone. Included among the guests were Mrs. Percy Wright and grandson, Stephen Manuel, Temple, NB., Mr. and Mrs Herman Nichol, Mrs. Edwin Barrett, Woodstock, Mr.. and Mrs. Theodore Griffin, Houlton, Maine, Mrs Jack MacDougall, Debec, Albert Spinney, Eldon Higgs, Miss Nancy Boone, Rev G.A. Norman G. Higgs of Canterbury, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2004 at Carleton Manor, Woodstock, surrounded by his family and friends at his bedside. Born in Fosterville on November 30, 1917, he was a son of the late John and Beatrice (Gould) Higgs. Norman enjoyed woodworking, hunting, spending time in the woods and working on his woodlot on Pemberton Ridge. He especially enjoyed spending time with those he cared for most, his family. Norman is survived by two sons, Brian Higgs (Lenora), Fosterville and Gary Higgs, Edmonton, Alberta; two grandchildren, Jason Higgs and Jill Higgs, both of Fosterville; one sister, Annie Palmer, St. Stephen; a brother, Carl Higgs (Bertha), Forest City; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Irva (Boyd) Higgs on March 14, 1997, an infant daughter, Judy Higgs, a sister, Helen Worrell and a brother, Laurel Higgs. FORT FAIRFIELD - Judith Holt Boone, 74, died Thursday evening, March 16, 2006, at a Caribou healthcare facility, after a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1932, at Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Thurber E. and Henrietta V. (Bishop) Holt. Judith attended Fort Fairfield elementary schools and was a high school graduate of the Dana Hall Academy, Boston, Mass. Judith enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage and was an avid reader and traveler, and will be remembered as a great cook. In addition to her parents, Judith was predeceased by her husband, Roy G. Boone in 2003; one brother, Thurber E. Holt Jr.; one sister, Louise McGee; and many special friends. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Beth Boone of Caribou; one daughter, Elizabeth Boone-Coville and son-in law, Patrick Coville, both of Houlton; four grandchildren, Catherine, Daniel, Michael and Meg; several nieces and nephews; and dear companion, Harold Melkonian of Warwick, R.I. The passing of Alan Stuart Home, of Fredericton, occurred on June 13, 2004 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock in 1936 he was a son of Marchmont and Frances L. Brother to Sophie Home I checked with Mom (Lorraine) and she told me that Marchmont's father was in the woods working and a tree fell on him. He was lying there under the tree for quite a while and then developed secondary pnemunia and died. I apologize for misleading you by mistake about him being murdered - It was Mom's mother's (Lena White) father(Artmus Randall) that was murdered by some black people. He was in a canoe crossing French Lake by Lakeville Corner while hunting for moose. The black people claimed that they thought he was a moose and shot him. Mom's family think they murdered him because he was going in the direction of where they were headed to hunt moose. You probably have heard this story before. Dad use to tell us alot of stories about Claude Peck--he thought alot of him. He was very good to all of them. Do you ever see Lorne Home? My husband and I were up to visit with him about 6 weeks ago. Dad showed us a couple times where the old homestead was at Green Mountain--he had fond memories of living there. Grammie taught school there too didn't she? Was she a teacher of yours? I will check with Mom regarding old pictures and get back to you on that. Aug 25 1977 - Mrs Frances Margaret Boone, 86, of Geary, died today in the Oromocto Public hospital.
She was a member of the Geary Baptist church and a charter member of the LOBA No 681.
She is survived by two sons, Rubert Boone, Kingsclear and Donald Boone, Geary; two daughters, Mrs. Bennie Smith (Helen), Frence Lake; amd Mrs. Sammy Shanks (Elaine), Geary; two sisters, Mrs. Wesley Maxwell (Hastie), Saint John; and Mrs. John Harper (Annie), Geary; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The body is resting at her late home in Geary where prayers will be said Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by service at the Geary United Baptist Church with Rev. Hartley Brittain officiating. Interment will be in the Geary cemetery.

It is with great sadness the family of Gwendolyn (Gwen) Blackie announces her passing on June 4, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on August 26, 1927 in Fosterville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Clare Howe.Gwendolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, John Blackie; sons, Brent Blackie (Carol) and Blaine (Cheryl Ann) both of Halifax, NS; daughters, Lynn Campbell (Peter) of Welsford, NB, Nancy Francis (Mike) of Moncton, NB, and Susan Pierce (Darren) of Fredericton, NB. Gwendolyn will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren In addition to her parents, Gwendolyn was predeceased by her sister, Patricia MacKinney and brother, Herbert Howe.Gwendolyn was an active member of the Wilmot United Church who will be missed by many. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 12:00 - 2:00 with memorial service to follow in the J.A McAdam Memorial Chapel. Interment will be held at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery following the memorial service. For those who wish, donations in Gwendolyn's memory can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Mrs Ida B. Howe, a Native of New Brunswick Dies After Brief Illness Danforth, Me., Oct 15, [1940] - Mrs Ida B Howe, 72, wofe of Thomas A Howe of Weston, died Wednesday following a brief illness. She was born at North Lake, NB., the daughter of Stephen and Elmina Howe. For several years following their marriage, Mr and Mrs Howe resided at North Lake, coming to Danforth in 1901. Two years later they purchased the Springer farm in Weston, where they have since resided.
Mrs Howe became a member of the Orient, Me., Baptist church 50 years ago, after affiliating with the local Baptist Church, where she was an active worker in the Ladies Circle.
She will be kindly remembered as a friend and neighbor, and the hospitality of her home has been enjoyed by many throughout the years.
Mr and Mrs Howe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, 1937, and each succeeding year has been marked by a reunion of friends.
She leaves jer husband, a daughter, Pearl Howe, and a foster son, Charles Howe of Portland; six grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs Henry H Till of Millinocket; Mrs P.C. Lutz of North Lake; Mrs John W Wilson of Danforth and Mrs John Barrie of Prouts Neck, Me.; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Baptist Church, the Rev John Scott officiating, assisted by the Rev B.C. Dunbar and the Rev Mr Atwood. Two hymns were sung by Mrs Archie Gould, Mrs Richard Tuck and Mrs Stanley Farnum and a selection by Mrs P.W. Lyon.
The pall-bearers were H.H. Putnam, J.H. Crowell, Ira kinney, Richard Doffins. Interment was in the local cemetery.
Out of town relatives attending were from Geary, NB., Saint John, NB., Millinocket, Me., and Portland, Maine.
