Came to Canada when 13 years old

A number from this Pemberton Ridge attended the funeral of Mrs. Rachel Wood at Fosterville on Tuesday afternoon, Han 5th. Mrs. Wood was well known in this vicinity, her home being for many years at Fosterville. But since her husband's death some six years ago, she had spent much of her time at Danforth, Me., where two sons and a daughter reside, while her son, John, and his family, lived at the home. She was visiting a friend at Danforth, expecting to come home to Fosterville on Sunday to stay the winter, when she was taken suddenly ill and passed away within a few hours. She leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. A brother and sister also survive, and a large number of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will regret to learn if her passing.
The funeral at the Fosterville church where she labored many years was largely attended. Rev. Walter Ramsay preached a beautiful sermon from the words, "What is your life", -James 4:14. The hymns sung were "Face to Face," "There'll Be No Dark Valley", and "When I Get to the End of the Way."

Austin Stanley Kinney Sr. - HOULTON, 93, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on April 25. He was born September 9, 1920 at North Lake, NB., Canada, the 2nd child of Thomas and Mary (Fox) Kinney. Austin served in the Royal Canadian Airforce. He owned and operated Kinney and Sorge (?) Store in Fosterville, NB. for several years. He was employed by Bangor and Aroostook railroad for 29 years. After retiring, Austin and his wife owned and operated Kinney Boarding Home. He married the love of his life, Barbara Bartlett on August 11, 1951. Together they have eight children, Ginger, Founer, Candice, Mary, Austin Jr., Kevin, Timothy and Rebecca; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Ruth Sorge (?) and many nieces and nephews. Wedding Of Interest - A quiet wedding took place at Christ Church, Amherst, N.S., on Wednesday, Nov 10, 1943, when the pastor, Rev J.E. Sheehy united in marriage Ruth Fox Kinney, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Kinney, of Fosterville, NB, and Albert George, son of Mr and Mrs M.A. Sorge, of Amherst. The young couple were attended by Mr and Mrs Norman Sorge. The bride is a member of the stores department of the Canadian Car and Foundry Co. The bridegroom who has been active in Scout work, is branch manager of the Halifax Chronicle, and also on the staff of the Silver Slipper. The young couple are residing at 80 South Albion Street, Amherst.

A young man named Wesley Kinney is being tried before Judge Marsh here upon the charge of rape, preferred by Miss Lillian McNally. Both parties belong to North Lake, and the crime is alleged to have been committed on December 12th last, since which date the prisoner had been married. The girl is only 18 years of age, and man is five years her senior. J.R. Murphy of Woodstock appears on behalf of the prosecution, and R. W. McLellan for the prisoner. (On January 7, 1903, the paper reported on Kinney as follows:
It is understood that Wesley Kinney of North Lake, against whom a true bill was brought by the grand jury in a criminal charge, has left for parts unknown. Kinney was in the city yesterday. He was admitted to bail on his own recognizance for $1,000 and two sureties of $250 each, the sureties being R.W. McLellan (His lawyer) and the father of the defendant.
The trial of Kenney is set down for tomorrow morning. It seems to be the general opinion that he does not intend to surrender himself.

(That opinion proved correct. The next day, January 9th, it was reported:
Wesley Kinney, North Lake, who was indicted on a charge of rape on a girl named Lydia Jane McNally (earlier reported as Lillian), failed to put in an appearance this morning and forfeits bail. The attorney-generalmoved for trial in the case of the King vs Wesley Kinney. R.W. McLellan, who appeared for the accused, stated that his client had not yet arrived in the city, but a telegram from Allan Marker (? Markey, maybe) of North Lake stated that Kinney would arrive today if possible. He added that he expected his client on the noon train. His honor, on motion of the attorney-general, declared the recognizances entreated and ordered a bench warrant for the arrest of Kinney.

(Wes and his wife, Lillian Veysey, left New Brunswick to live in Weston, Maine, outside the jurisdiction of the court. He died on Jan 6, 1908, presumably with the warrant for his arrest still in effect.

Lydia moved on with her life and married a John Furrow. They lived in Benton.

She was born in Brookton, Oct. 6, 1941, the daughter of Chester A. and Grace E. (Grass) Knights. She was a loving wife and mother. In addition to her husband, Roger of Lincoln; she is survived by a son, Roger L. Cropley II and Wanda Springer and their children, Melody and Madison of Windham; a daughter, Bobbi Jean Trask and her husband, John and their daughters, Chelsea Mae and Katelyn Gene of Lincoln; three brothers, Arnold Knights and Marial, Edwin Knights and Vicky, all of Brookton and Roland Knights and Priscilla of Danforth; four sisters, Evelyn Kinney of Brookton, Polly Lyons and Donald of Lincoln, Phyllis Kinney and Ivan of Medway and Linda Cowan and Maurice of Weston; several nieces, nephews, and all of the children she cared for over the years. Wallace (Wally) Oliver Knox of Woodstock, NB, passed away at the Fredericton Facility, 700 Priestman Street, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Nancy E. Knox; two daughters Barbara Stairs (Gary) of Douglas, NB, Katherine Gaudet (Greg) of Miscouche, PEI; three sons Jack Knox (Kristie McAllister) of Tantallon, NB, Jim Knox (Nancy) of Kensington, PEI, Daniel Knox (Kelly Lange-Knox) of Fredericton, NB; one sister Mrs. Joyce Raye (Clifford) of Pittsfield, Maine; one brother, Paul Jay Knox of McAdam, NB; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Joan Margaret Laskey, Birth - December 16, 1936 in Saint John, New Brunswick at Evangeline Hospital. Joan graduated from the University of Western Ontario, King's College in October, 1983 (Class of '82) with a Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW), age 46. She has four credits toward a Master's of Social Work, University of Windsor, age 52. For fifteen years, Joan was a psychotherapist working with adult survivors of sexual abuse, men and women. She also worked with several offenders. She has studied with Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in a Life, Death, Transition Workshop in 1984 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As well Joan and her husband, Guy, volunteered at Elisabeth's office and ranch in Head Waters, VA for two weeks in the summer of 1985. Joan has studied with Dr. Gregg Furth a Jungian analyst from New York City in an Impromptu Drawing Course in San Diego, CA and a Fairytales workshop in Bethany Beach, Delaware, both in 1984.Joan published her first book In Her Room in June, 2002. In Her Room is about the last seven weeks in the life of Nathalie Goudreault, Guy's niece, who died of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 24. All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to The Hospice Village of Windsor/Essex County, the first of its kind in North America. Joan is a Master Gardener, writing columns for a Saturday feature in The Windsor Star's Discovery section. Joan is a member of the Ambassador Horticultural Society. Joan also contributes articles to the Woman Within Newsletter 'Spirit Song'. The articles have use the garden as a metaphor for other topics. Joan is working on her next book 'The Empty Well' about sex and romance addiction. She has plans for two more books 'Delight in the Little Things' about Guy's cancer diagnosis on Christmas Eve, 2001 and his year-long recuperation and a book about the correspondence between three garden pals, one of whom wrote in the most exquisite penmanship.Raised a third generation Salvationist (The Salvation Army), Joan converted to Catholicism in 1995 at the age of 58 taking the name of Ruth as her confirmation name. Granted an annulment, Joan and Guy were married in the Catholic church on October 7, 2000, also their 25th wedding anniversary (October 10, 1975) 
JOAN MARGARET LASKEY is the first of three children born to George and Eva. Joan was married in 1957 to Bert Arnold Moorcroft with whom she has three children (see below). Bert and Joan were divorced in 1975. On October 10, 1975 she married her second husband, Edmond Roland Joseph GUY Jolin (known as Guy R. Jolin) in Boston, ON. Joan and Guy have no biological children.
