Elizabeth "Betty" Shirley Chase of White's Mountain, while surrounded by her family went to be with The Lord on August 25, 2007 at the age of 75. Born in Anderson, Westmorland Co. on August 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Wesley Crossman and Alma (Bainbridge). Elizabeth is survived by Darrell, her husband of 55 years; two daughters, Diane Trail and her husband, Aubrey of Maugerville, and Charis Boone and her husband, Jeff of Hartland; two sons, Mark Chase and his wife, Karen of Vancouver, and Philip Chase and his wife, Daniela of Innisfil, Ontario; two sisters, Joan Henry of Fredericton and Esther McKnight of Florida; 12 grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, Heather, Noel, Isaac, Hilary, Nathan, Krista, Joel, Sacha, Tanya and Jonathan; two great grandchildren, Stephen and Annika; as well as several nieces and nephews. Daily Gleaner, Oct 6, 1954 - Mrs. Emma Boone, 70, of Houlton, Me., was drowned at Keswick, about 8 miles above this city (Fredericton) on the St. John River, shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday. She was on her was to attend her brother's funeral there.
Mrs. Boone drove her car onto McNally's Ferry, to cross the river. The car failed to stop, continued off the opposite side of the craft and plunged into deep water. The body was taken from the car short afterward by members of the Fredericton detachment, and placed in the custody of a mortician for return to Houlton. The car was raised from the river late yesterday. Mrs. Boone was alone in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Dunn Funeral Home. The Rev David Jones of Aswega, NY will officiate. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Died in a motorcycle accident while in the army

Bangor Daily News, Feb 27, 1901 - Phoebe L. Cropley - age 88, of Kennebec View Trailer Park, Route 27, died Feb. 24, 2001, at her home. She was born in Bancroft, on July 14,1912, the daughter of John Darke and Gertrude (Lee) Darke. Mrs. Cropley graduated from Lee Academy in 1931 and the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1934, with a bachelor of arts degree. She continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono. Mrs. Cropley taught grade school in Aroostook County for 12 years. She moved to Gardiner in 1951 and taught 10 years at Plummer Street School. She then taught in Winthrop for five years and went to Belfast for the last seven years, retiring in 1972. Mrs.
Cropley was a member of Winter Street Baptist Church of Gardiner where she was a member of the Church Missionary, a member of the Maine & National Retired Teachers Associations, W.C.T.U. Gardiner Unit, Randolph Senior Citizens where she was secretary for over 10 years and Four Leaf Clover Senior Citizens Club of Gardiner and a member of the Retired Service Volunteer Program, where she received an award for 25 years of service. Mrs. Cropley was active in the Bloodmobile Program, active in forming the Friends of Gardiner Common and had been in charge of the Tender Loving Care Program for the elderly. Her husband, Philip A. Cropley, died on Dec. 14, 1984. She was also predeceased by a sister, Alma MacCloud. Surviving are a son, Duane A. Cropley of Pittston; a stepson, Ronald P.
Cropley of Troy; a brother, Raymond Darke of Hermon; four stepgrandchildren, Cheryl, Alan, Aaron and Clarissa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Amesbury-White Funeral Home, 39 Washington Avenue, Gardiner where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor John Tolbert officiating.
Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leroy Avril Davenport at his residence in Kilburn, NB on September 15, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Leroy was surrounded by his loving family and peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Leroy was born on March 28, 1936, in Bristol, NB. As a young child, Leroy worked alongside his grandfather plowing and harrowing the fields, planting crops, cutting hay and wood. He drove a team of horses at the tender age of ten. Leroy recalled seeing pavement for the very first time at the age of twelve and was thrilled the first time he saw electric lights when power came to Holmesville in 1949. He was amazed how quickly the lights turned on when he turned on the switch. When he completed his responsibilities as home, he would help a neighbor on his farm cutting pulp and planting crops for twenty-five cents a day. From the age of 12 to 20 years of age, Leroy worked at the school as a janitor, farm hand for Willy Barrett and woods worker for Crabbe's Lumber. At the age of twenty, Leroy started working on the Beachwood Dam and was thrilled to have earned $1.00 per hour.At the age of 22, Leroy married the mother of his children, Ruth Greer from Fosterville. Leroy and Ruth were blessed with five children but suffered the loss of a infant daughter shortly after birth. The Davenport family settled in Holmesville and raised their family. Leroy was a wonderful husband and father and provided for his family. Leroy worked for Irving Oil for several years and was presented an opportunity to manage Linwood Giberson's livestock farm and Leroy accepted. Working with Linwood provided an opportunity to gain experience to buy, sell and transport livestock and this experience set the groundwork for Leroy to move on to running his own Livestock Broker business later.In 1987, Leroy married Elizabeth Avery and they settled in Kilburn, NB. Leroy and his son Ronald bought a farm and developed the farm by building two houses, a barn, grainery and a shop. His business grew and he enjoyed farming, buying and selling livestock and he continued to work until his health declined.Leroy is predeceased by his mother, Verna Budrow, Stepfather Marshall Budrow, brother Donnie (Brenda), and sisters Stella and Loleta, infant daughter Pamela and grandson Jordan Gahan.
Leroy is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, sister Shirley (Dyke) Denny and Sister-in-law Brenda. His children, daughter Kathleen (Lester) Verrill, sons Ronald (Beverly), Dwaine (Scarlett), Vaughn (Patricia) and the mother of his children, Ruth Blue. Stepchildren Brian, Terry, Kendall, Leica, and Troy Avery. Grandchildren Lance (Sarah), Colten (Emma), Clay, Josh (Sally), Joel (Shannon), Jordan (Jessica), Nathan (Sonya), Gillian (Curtis), Stephanie (Mike), Damion (Courtney), Kristine, Abbey, Katie, Jamie, Jennie & Jonathan and thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Nurses from Extra-Mural, Dr. Anan and the Perth Andover Oncology Department for their compassionate care that was extended to our family. Kurt David, 65, of New London, died January 4, 2022, at his home.
He was born in New Haven, February 7, 1956, the son of Adolph William David, Jr. and Marion Irene Donaldson David. He was a graduate of West Haven High School. He also attended CIA Culinary School and HVAC School. Recently he had been employed as a deli clerk at Walmart.
Kurt was a man of many interests and many talents. He loved gardening, reading, and working with his hands. He was a kind soul, loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by four brothers, Skip David (Dee) of Zellwood, FL., Richard David (Cindy) of Strong, Maine, David David of North Kingston, RI, Jeff David (Mary Jane, deceased) of West Haven; two sisters, Linda Mychajlowskyj (Ewhen) of New Haven, Nancy Arendholz (Michael Owaroff) of New London. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Kurt's life is being planned for later in the year.

Dog Rouses Family As Fire Leaves Six Homeless in North Lake Area Feb 21, 1960

An early morning fire Sunday, destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Marshall Davidson at North Lake and left them and their four children homeless. All their possessions were lost in the blaze.
One daughter, Maxine, had been staying with friends in Canterbury overnight and knew nothing of the fire until later.
Mr Davidson was awakened by the family dog. "The dog was standing by the bed barking", Mr Davidson told the Sentinel-Press, "and when I awoke I knew something was wrong". Mr Davidson said that at that time there was no smoke.
When Mr Davidson discovered the fire he roused two of his children - Arlene, 14, and Wilfred, 8 - and told them to 'break the window and jump". All the family were on the second floor of the two storey dwelling.
He picked up their youngest child, Gloria, 6, and carried her into the room where his wife was. "I had an awful time to break out the window because there was a screen on the outside", Mr Davidson said. "My wife kept running down the hall to get the other children and didn't seem to realize that they were already out of the house." After getting the window clear, Mr Davidson helped his wife as she made the long leap to the ground below. With the fire coming closer all the time, Mr Davidson lowered his daughter as far as possible and dropped her.
She has suffered from po[obscure]', Mr Davidson said, "and I didn't want her to fall any more than was necessary. Arlene had found her way around the house and caught Gloria when I dropped her." In catching her sister, Arlene fell to the ground and received a bad cut to her arm. Wilfred had received a bad burn when he dashed downstairs and was forced to return to the second floor and jump from the window.
When Wilfred made the daring leap into the snow below from the smashed window, the flames were swiftly consuming the bedding on the bed from which he leaped. The dog followed the children into the morning [obscure] air.
Mr Davidson was the last to leave the building and so intense was the heat behind him that his hair was singed and the back of his ears burned.
Out of the house, and very lightly clad - they just had time to grab what was handy in the rooms - the family started down the road to the nearest neighbor's home close to one mile away.
On the way they were met by a car and given a lift. Mr Davidson went to the residence of a neighbor, Mr Melvin Varney, while his family was taken down the road a further distance to the home of Mrs Davidson's sister.
The five were later taken to Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. Mrs Davidson was detained, as was one of the children, while the other two were released after treatment and examination.
Mrs Davidson was reported suffering from first degree burns and minor cuts but her condition was said to be not serious.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheated stove. Mr Davidson did not give an estimate of teh damage, though he said they lost everything in the fire. "Those things we can replace in time", he said, "but if we'd lost one of the children I don't know what we would have done."

Peacefully passed away on May 30, 2018, at the age of 81. He will be fondly remembered by his children Valerie (Clint) and Rosalie, his grandchildren Brittany, Angela, Dustin, Ashley, Devon and Logan, his great-grandchildren Gabriel, Emmilou, Chance and Max, his sister, Antoinetta (Giovanni) his step-daughter Danielle (Yves) and Johanne, her daughter Filomena and Sabrina and great-grandson Noah, his brother-in-law Tony (Andre), many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. North Lake, Jan. 15, 1923 - Mrs James Hawkes (Sarah Ann nee Dean) died today at her home in North Lake, York County. She is survived by her husband and three sons, George and Charles, at home, and Sanford, who lives in Maxwell, and two daughters, Mrs Herbert Martin, Union Corner, and Mrs McDade, Montreal. Her husband and sons, Charles and Sanford, were present at the time of her death; George and Mrs. Martin were delayed by blocked roads, arriving two hours after death had occurred. The deepest sympathy is expressed by all for the family in their sad bereavement. Deceased was noted all through her life for her great kindness to others.

FOREST CITY, ME. - Doris Louise Walls, 86, wife of the late Melvin E. Walls, died June 22, 1999, at a Houlton health-care facility. She was born in Danforth, Sept. 14, 1912, the daughter of Horace and Mae (Foss) Grass. She attended schools in Vanceboro. Doris resided in Brewer for 42 years and had lived in Forest City for 22 years. She was a member of the Essex Street Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school (Sunshine Class). She was a member of Tuscan Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Bangor, had been on the board of directors at King's Daughters Home, and was a member of the Sunshine Club for Handicapped Children. In addition to her husband, Melvin, she was predeceased by a son, Herbert Graham; a brother, Richard Grass; and a sister, Mildred Hopper. She is survived by two daughters, Louise Russell of Brunswick and Mrs. Lewis (June) Bone of Houlton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Bartlett Funeral Home, Danforth. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clayton Crocker officiating. Interment will be in Vanceboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Brookton-Forest City Community Center.

Jack DeMerchant of Tobique Narrows passed away peacefully at the Victoria Glen Manor on December 2, 2012.Born in Tobique Narrows on August 7, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Wallace) DeMerchant. Jack leaves behind his sons Michael (Patty) DeMerchant of Saint John, Chris (Brenda) DeMerchant of Perth-Andover, Greg (Charlene) DeMerchant of Fredericton; grandchildren Ciara, Jordan, Nicole, and Tanya; great grandchildren Carter, Sophia, Blake, and Cole; sisters Marion DeMerchant and Reta Jamer, both of Perth-Andover; brother Peter DeMerchant of Tobique Narrows. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Joyce DeMerchant (Goodine); seven brothers and one sister.Jack was a member of the Perth-Andover Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus, and a Shriner. He was very successful and well respected local businessman.Resting at Brunswick Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Douglas Ernest Derrick passed away peacefully at his home in Woodstock NB where he received excellent care from the Extra Mural Program, Canadian Red Cross, Dr. William Mutrie, Brenda Shannon and his beloved wife, Gina. Doug grew up in a farmhouse in Dead Creek NB where he helped with the family farm. He graduated from Canterbury Regional High School where he was avid basketball player. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force after high school and was stationed in Ottawa to look after dignitaries. After his service, he moved to Toronto where he worked and first played golf, a passion he carried on until he could play no more. He married Betty Jean Derrick (Nee Dickinson) and had two children before moving back to Woodstock NB to raise the family. He worked at St. Anne Pulp and Paper Mill until his retirement, at which time he enjoyed travelling to New Zealand on multiple occasions to visit his family.Douglas married Gina (Nee Cheney) on January 2, 1998 in Woodstock NB and he was a loving and caring husband for over 21 years.Douglas will most endearingly be remember for lovingly raising two children, two step children, 10 grandchildren and helping raise many other children who treated as his own.Douglas is survived by his wife, Gina Derrick, his daughter, Tammy Hebditch (Peter), Hamilton, New Zealand, his son, Dale Derrick (Anna), Tel Aviv, Israel, five grandchildren, Matthew Hebditch, Alexandria Hebditch, Ben Derrick, Mason Derrick and Jordan Seltser, two step daughters, Rachel Faulkner, Fort McMurray, AB, and Heather Lewis (Troy), Woodstock NB, five step grandchildren, Lincoln Faulkner, Kalee Ingraham, Landon Ingraham, Jayden Ingraham, and Leland Ingraham, sisters, Laura Roussell (Bill), Canterbury NB and Carolyn Derrick (Derek Davidson), Fredericton NB, brothers, Ray Derrick (Arlene), Woodstock NB, Donald Derrick (Dorrine), Woodstock NB, Lawrence Derrick (Terriann), Nackawic NB, as well several nieces, and nephews.Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Ernest T.
